FDSE (Forward Deployed Software Engineer)
FDE Pulse Glossary
Also: Forward Deployed Software Engineer
FDSE is Palantir's name for the software-engineering track within its forward deployed teams. An FDSE writes production code inside a customer deployment, as opposed to the Deployment Strategist track, which leans analytical and business-facing.
Other companies use Forward Deployed Engineer and Forward Deployed Software Engineer interchangeably. At Palantir the distinction matters internally, where the FDSE is the engineer and the Deployment Strategist is the embedded analyst. The two work as a pair.
FDSE roles are among the most searched FDE titles because Palantir is the origin of the model and its alumni went on to found companies like Hex, Anduril, OpenGov, and Addepar.
