Job Description
The Forward Deployed Engineer position at Blueflame AI plays a critical role in helping clients realize the full potential of the Blueflame platform. This position requires close collaboration with our Client Success team and other members of our Engineering team to develop and implement superior software components, and ensure the reliability and performance of the platform. The ideal candidate will be organized, energetic, and comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.
This position is based in our New York City Blueflame office and follows a hybrid work model. Employees are required to work in-office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays per week.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Clients and Customer Success: Develop and enhance the platform based on client feedback.
- Development: Design and implement the server-side logic and functionality for the Blueflame AI platform, ensuring efficient data processing and management
- Database Management: Create, maintain, and optimize databases, ensuring data integrity and security
- API Development and Integration: Develop and maintain APIs to enable communication between the server and client-side applications, as well as with third-party services
- Security Implementation: Implement security measures to protect data and applications from unauthorized access and vulnerabilities, including encryption and authentication protocols
- Collaboration with Front End Engineers: Work closely with front end software engineers to ensure seamless integration of server-side logic with user interfaces
- Optimize Performance: Implement best practices for optimizing platform performance
- Troubleshoot: Identify and fix bugs in the code
- Documentation: Write and maintain documentation for code, processes, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team
- Stay Updated with Trends: Keep abreast of the latest trends and technologies in back end development, including new frameworks, libraries, and tools
What You Bring
- 5+ years of industry and/or technical experience
- Advanced knowledge of Python
- Experience building/working with RESTful APIs
- Experience with Mongo & Redis
- Interest in LLMs
- Familiarity of distributed systems and multi-threading
- Ability to problem solve and work collaboratively
- Excellent communication skills
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or an equivalent engineering discipline

The base salary range represents the estimated low and high end for this position based on a good faith assessment of the role and market data at the time of posting. Consistent with applicable law, each candidate’s compensation offer may vary and will be determined based on but not limited to, your geographic region, skills, qualifications, and experience along with the requirements of the position. This position may be eligible for bonuses, commissions, or overtime if applicable. Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision), a retirement savings plan, paid time off, and other employee benefits. Specific details will be provided during the interview process. Datasite reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.

About Forward Deployed Engineering
Forward Deployed Engineers are embedded directly with customers to build custom solutions, integrate products into existing infrastructure, and bridge the gap between product engineering and customer success. The role combines deep technical skills with the ability to operate in client environments and translate business requirements into working software.
Originally pioneered by Palantir, the FDE model has spread across AI, enterprise SaaS, and cloud infrastructure companies. FDEs write production code, architect integrations, train customer teams, and feed product insights back to the core engineering organization. At companies like OpenAI, Salesforce, and Databricks, FDE teams are treated as elite engineering units that can ship custom solutions in days rather than quarters.
Typical FDE stack: Python, TypeScript, SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and increasingly LLM APIs and AI orchestration frameworks. Strong communication and the ability to context-switch between technical and business conversations are as important as coding ability.
