Forward Deployed Engineer (Solutions Engineer)

Remote Mid Posted May 01, 2026

Role Description

What you'll do

  • Write, review, and debug transform scripts that modify storefront responses at the edge, ensuring correctness across device types, locales, and customer groups
  • Actively monitor customer trials and react to issues or anomalies fast, whether that’s a code change, or an internal escalation — speed of solution is key
  • Use browser DevTools, Honeycomb, and Nostra's internal APIs to diagnose caching anomalies, TTFB regressions, and personalization conflicts in production environments
  • Own the technical relationship with a portfolio of merchant accounts — acting as the primary engineering point of contact for escalations
  • Build internal tooling, documentation, and playbooks that scale the team's ability to onboard and support customers faster
  • Surface product feedback from the field — you'll have more first-hand exposure to real-world edge cases than anyone else in the company, and your input will directly shape the roadmap

What we're looking for

  • 2–5 years of experience in a technical customer-facing, or engineering role (solutions engineering, forward deployed engineering, full stack engineer, or similar)
  • Proficiency in JavaScript — you're comfortable reading, writing, and debugging JS in a browser context without hand-holding
  • Solid understanding of how the web works: HTTP, caching headers, CDNs, DNS, and browser rendering
  • Experience with Shopify storefronts (Liquid, Hydrogen, or headless) is a strong plus; familiarity with SFCC or other enterprise platforms is a bonus
  • Comfort working in production environments under pressure — you know how to isolate a problem, form a hypothesis, and verify it without breaking things
  • Strong written and verbal communication — you can explain a cache invalidation strategy to a merchant's VP of Engineering and their Head of eCommerce in the same conversation

Nice to have

  • Experience with Cloudflare Workers, CDN configuration, or edge compute platforms
  • Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks and experimentation tooling
  • Background in ecommerce performance optimization (Core Web Vitals, LCP, TTFB)
  • Experience working across GitHub repos in a collaborative eng environment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per month

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Health insurance
  • Promotion to permanent employee
  • Work from home

Application Question(s):

  • How many years of experience do you have in a technical customer-facing or engineering role?
  • Rate your proficiency when it comes to JavaScript (0- no experience, 1- Beginner, 10- Expert).
  • Do you have any Shopify experience?
  • Are you amenable to working in a night shift schedule?
  • What is your expected salary?

Work Location: Remote

About Forward Deployed Engineering

Forward Deployed Engineers are embedded directly with customers to build custom solutions, integrate products into existing infrastructure, and bridge the gap between product engineering and customer success. The role combines deep technical skills with the ability to operate in client environments and translate business requirements into working software.

Originally pioneered by Palantir, the FDE model has spread across AI, enterprise SaaS, and cloud infrastructure companies. FDEs write production code, architect integrations, train customer teams, and feed product insights back to the core engineering organization. At companies like OpenAI, Salesforce, and Databricks, FDE teams are treated as elite engineering units that can ship custom solutions in days rather than quarters.

Typical FDE stack: Python, TypeScript, SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and increasingly LLM APIs and AI orchestration frameworks. Strong communication and the ability to context-switch between technical and business conversations are as important as coding ability.
