Forward Deployed Engineer – Software / Infrastructure / AI
Role Description
StageYou, Inc. is recruiting a Forward Deployed Engineer on behalf of a fast-growing U.S. technology company.
We are seeking a highly capable engineer who combines strong hands-on software engineering skills with the ability to work directly with customers to deploy, integrate, and improve production systems.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex real-world problems, working closely with users and technical stakeholders, and taking solutions from initial design through implementation, deployment, and production.
What You May Work On
- Design, build, integrate, and deploy production-grade software and infrastructure
- Work directly with customers to understand technical requirements and operational workflows
- Build backend services, APIs, integrations, internal tools, and data workflows
- Deploy applications into cloud, hybrid, or customer-controlled environments
- Troubleshoot complex software, infrastructure, networking, data, and integration issues
- Build reusable solutions from customer-specific requirements
- Partner with product and engineering teams to feed customer requirements back into the core product
- Support technical discovery, prototypes, demonstrations, onboarding, and production rollouts
- Work with AI/ML-enabled products where relevant
- Travel or work onsite with customers when required
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of professional software engineering, infrastructure engineering, SRE, solutions engineering, or related experience
- Strong programming ability in one or more of Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, C++, or similar
- Experience with APIs, backend systems, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure
- Familiarity with technologies such as AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, SQL, Kafka, Terraform, and CI/CD
- Ability to debug unfamiliar systems and solve problems independently
- Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with technical and non-technical customers
- High ownership, adaptability, and comfort operating in fast-moving environments

About Forward Deployed Engineering
Forward Deployed Engineers are embedded directly with customers to build custom solutions, integrate products into existing infrastructure, and bridge the gap between product engineering and customer success. The role combines deep technical skills with the ability to operate in client environments and translate business requirements into working software.
Originally pioneered by Palantir, the FDE model has spread across AI, enterprise SaaS, and cloud infrastructure companies. FDEs write production code, architect integrations, train customer teams, and feed product insights back to the core engineering organization. At companies like OpenAI, Salesforce, and Databricks, FDE teams are treated as elite engineering units that can ship custom solutions in days rather than quarters.
Typical FDE stack: Python, TypeScript, SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and increasingly LLM APIs and AI orchestration frameworks. Strong communication and the ability to context-switch between technical and business conversations are as important as coding ability.
