Forward Deployed Expert

$208K - $416K Remote Mid Posted July 28, 2026

Role Description

As a Forward Deployed Expert (FDEx), you work alongside our engineering team inside live customer environments, turning your operational expertise into working AI-powered automations.

You have spent years learning how a business actually runs. That knowledge is about to become one of the most valuable inputs in enterprise software, and almost nobody is putting it to work.

We are looking for experts from multiple domains who want free training on AI and to solve real world operational problems.

What you'll do

  • Sit with a customer's team and map how a process genuinely operates today
  • Identify which parts of that process are automatable, which are not, and where the real failure points are
  • Work directly with Velanir engineers to design, configure, and validate AI agent workflows against that process
  • Test agent behavior against the edge cases you know will break it, because you have seen them break before
  • Troubleshoot in production and refine the deployment until it survives contact with reality
  • Help the customer's team understand and trust what has been built

Before you Deploy: Free Training and Certification

Every Forward Deployed Expert (FDEx) completes our 6-week certification program first. It is built and taught by our team of AI experts, and it is free to you.

You will learn how AI agents actually work under the hood, how to scope an automation opportunity, how to design agent workflows, and how to validate and troubleshoot them in production. Not prompt tips. Not theory. The real mechanics of getting agents into production and keeping them there.

You finish with a Velanir FDEx certification and, more importantly, with deployment experience that very few people on earth currently have.

Experts We're Looking For

We are looking for experienced individual contributors and managers from any of these worlds:

  • Financial operations — payables, receivables, billing, payroll, the close
  • Order to cash — order management, credit, collections, contracts, pricing
  • Supply chain and procurement — purchasing, vendors, freight, inventory
  • Revenue operations and GTM systems — CRM administration, deal desk, commissions, sales and marketing ops
  • Healthcare revenue cycle — medical billing, coding, claims, denials
  • ERP and business systems — NetSuite, Acumatica, Epicor, Sage Intacct, Dynamics, Infor, SYSPRO, Epic, and similar

What you need:

  • Meaningful hands-on ownership of a repeatable operational process — typically 5+ years
  • Deep familiarity with at least one system of record in your domain
  • The ability to explain how and why a process works to people who have never seen it
  • Genuine curiosity about AI, and no requirement to have used it professionally
  • Comfort working in ambiguity inside someone else's business

What you don't need: a technical background, a computer science degree, or any prior AI experience. We will teach you that part. We cannot teach the other part.

Details

  • Compensation: $100-$200 per hour for deployment engagements, depending on years of experience. Training and certification are provided at no cost.
  • Engagement type: Independent contractor (1099). This is not W-2 employment and does not include employer-provided benefits.
  • Location: Fully remote. US-based applicants prioritized.
  • Commitment: Designed to work alongside a full-time job. Flexible, project-based scheduling.
  • Start: Fall 2026 cohort.

Pay: $100.00 - $200.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule
  • Professional development assistance
  • Referral program

Application Question(s):

  • What is your area of expertise? Which job function do you know best?
  • How many years of experience do you have in that function?
  • What was the last task or workflow you tried to automate with AI?

Work Location: Remote

About Forward Deployed Engineering

Forward Deployed Engineers are embedded directly with customers to build custom solutions, integrate products into existing infrastructure, and bridge the gap between product engineering and customer success. The role combines deep technical skills with the ability to operate in client environments and translate business requirements into working software.

Originally pioneered by Palantir, the FDE model has spread across AI, enterprise SaaS, and cloud infrastructure companies. FDEs write production code, architect integrations, train customer teams, and feed product insights back to the core engineering organization. At companies like OpenAI, Salesforce, and Databricks, FDE teams are treated as elite engineering units that can ship custom solutions in days rather than quarters.

Typical FDE stack: Python, TypeScript, SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and increasingly LLM APIs and AI orchestration frameworks. Strong communication and the ability to context-switch between technical and business conversations are as important as coding ability.
