The Role
PVM is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to support Southern California Edison's environments in Palantir Foundry. These systems support wildfire mitigation, Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) operations, and regulatory reporting.
You will own features and workstreams from design through deployment without day-to-day direction. You will work directly with utility stakeholders and operational users, and you will be a steady hand during live operational events. You will also begin mentoring junior engineers.
What You'll Do
- Own Foundry features and workstreams end to end: design, build, test, and deployment
- Build ontology-driven Workshop applications, dashboards, workflows, and actions used by field operations, customer operations, and leadership
- Build and maintain data pipelines that integrate SAP, OMS, GIS, weather, customer, and operational systems
- Contribute to ontology design: object types, link types, properties, and business logic across operational use cases
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis on your shift during critical operational events
- Translate stakeholder requirements into scalable Foundry solutions
- Support release management, deployment promotion, testing coordination, and environment governance
- Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and architecture diagrams
- Mentor junior engineers on Workshop development and Foundry best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field, plus 3–5 years of software engineering or systems integration experience
- In lieu of a degree: at least 7 years of relevant experience
- Hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry Ontology Manager, Workshop, Actions, and Pipeline Builder
- Experience with Python, TypeScript, or Java in Foundry development workflows
- Experience integrating ERP, GIS, operational, or enterprise systems
- Experience supporting production platforms or on-call rotations
- Willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts onsite in Rosemead, CA, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
- Palantir Foundry certification
- Familiarity with utility operations, wildfire mitigation, public safety, outage management, asset management, or regulatory reporting
- Experience supporting energy, infrastructure, emergency management, or other operational environments

About Forward Deployed Engineering
Forward Deployed Engineers are embedded directly with customers to build custom solutions, integrate products into existing infrastructure, and bridge the gap between product engineering and customer success. The role combines deep technical skills with the ability to operate in client environments and translate business requirements into working software.
Originally pioneered by Palantir, the FDE model has spread across AI, enterprise SaaS, and cloud infrastructure companies. FDEs write production code, architect integrations, train customer teams, and feed product insights back to the core engineering organization. At companies like OpenAI, Salesforce, and Databricks, FDE teams are treated as elite engineering units that can ship custom solutions in days rather than quarters.
Typical FDE stack: Python, TypeScript, SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and increasingly LLM APIs and AI orchestration frameworks. Strong communication and the ability to context-switch between technical and business conversations are as important as coding ability.
