Forward Deployed Engineer - On-site SF

$215K - $290K New York, NY, US Mid Posted September 27, 2026

Role Description

Voxquill is hiring for a team in the Bay Area. Voice AI.

Their agents answer real calls for large enterprises, at serious volume. You'd be the engineer who takes a customer from "this looks interesting" to running in production.

Read this part first

  • Full on-site. Monday to Friday in the Redwood City office.
  • US work authorization required. No sponsorship for this role right now.
  • You've worked directly with customers. Not next to them. You've owned the conversation, the scope, and the deployment.
  • The first technical round is live coding with no AI. If that's uncomfortable, this one isn't yours.

What you'd do

Scope with the customer, prototype, ship to production. Build full-stack integrations into CRMs, ERPs, and scheduling tools. Work alongside sales on demos and system design. Bring what you learn in the field back into the product.

Must have

  • 2+ years of engineering after your degree, and you're coding now. Current role is Software Engineer, FDE, Solutions Engineer, or Product Engineer.
  • React, Node, Python, and AWS. All four, hands-on.
  • Customer-facing work you can point to with specifics.
  • Real systems thinking. There's a proper system design round.

Nice to have

  • Voice AI, telephony, or LLMs in production.
  • Founder, founding engineer, or time at early-stage startups.
  • 3+ years of experience

What's on offer

$215K to $290K base plus equity.

Your level is set by how you do in the interviews, not by your years.

How hiring works

First, you'll have an intro call with us at Voxquill. We'll walk you through the full process before you commit to anything.

About Forward Deployed Engineering

Forward Deployed Engineers are embedded directly with customers to build custom solutions, integrate products into existing infrastructure, and bridge the gap between product engineering and customer success. The role combines deep technical skills with the ability to operate in client environments and translate business requirements into working software.

Originally pioneered by Palantir, the FDE model has spread across AI, enterprise SaaS, and cloud infrastructure companies. FDEs write production code, architect integrations, train customer teams, and feed product insights back to the core engineering organization. At companies like OpenAI, Salesforce, and Databricks, FDE teams are treated as elite engineering units that can ship custom solutions in days rather than quarters.

Typical FDE stack: Python, TypeScript, SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and increasingly LLM APIs and AI orchestration frameworks. Strong communication and the ability to context-switch between technical and business conversations are as important as coding ability.
