Agent Engineer (Solutions / Forward Deployed Engineer)

$150K - $180K Remote Mid Posted July 13, 2026

Role Description

Required LinkedIn link and customer facing experience

About this role

We are seeking an Agent Engineer to work directly with customers to implement, configure, and optimize an AI platform for their unique HR environments. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong customer-facing skills to ensure successful deployments and ongoing customer success.

You will be the technical side of the customer-facing team: the person who translates a customer’s HR process requirements into high-leverage, AI-powered workflows. You will partner closely with an Agent Strategist on each account, owning the technical delivery end to end: from scoping and design through build, testing, and iteration. This is not a traditional software engineering role and you will not be shipping product code. The craft here is in understanding a customer’s environment, configuring and deploying workflow engines to solve specific problems, and consulting customers toward the best solution.

Key responsibilities

  • Configure and deploy integrations with SSO, SCIM, HRIS/HCM platforms, and document management systems, such as Workday, UKG, Dayforce, SAP, SharePoint, and Google Drive.
  • Work directly with customers to understand their unique HR processes and gather technical requirements; present workflow designs back to the customer and consult them toward the recommended approach.
  • Build agentic HR workflows across Policy Administration, Employee Support, Service Delivery, and HR Operations.
  • Leverage RAG technology to synchronize customer content and validate question-answering capabilities.
  • Develop configurable extraction algorithms to process diverse customer data formats, from bespoke performance review templates to non-standard file structures, within the data ingestion workflow.
  • Serve as the first line of technical escalation when integration or platform issues arise, troubleshooting and resolving problems to ensure seamless data flow between systems.
  • Assist with ongoing HRIS updates and data maintenance across customer accounts.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately six to eight customer accounts simultaneously, balancing active build work with customer communication.
  • Gather customer feedback and advocate internally for product improvements, acting as the voice of the customer to the product team.
  • Leverage AI tooling, such as Claude Code and Codex, to improve internal processes and automate repetitive tasks, contributing to a culture of continuous efficiency improvement.

What we’re looking for

  • 3–7 years of experience as a Solutions Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or in another technical customer-facing role.
  • Experience working directly with customers to scope technical requirements, design solutions, and guide implementation.
  • Familiarity with integrations, APIs/REST APIs, SSO, SCIM, HRIS/HCM platforms, and document management systems.
  • Comfort translating complex customer workflows into clear technical configurations and implementation plans.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to serve as a trusted technical escalation point.
  • Ability to manage multiple customer accounts and priorities at the same time.
  • Interest in AI tooling and a practical mindset for using automation to improve internal processes.

Role details

  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Location: Redwood City, CA; Lincoln, NE; or remote within the US
  • Remote work policy: Either in-person 2+ days per week in Redwood City, with Monday and Tuesday compulsory, or 100% remote within the US
  • Salary: $150K–$180K
  • Equity: Competitive
  • Visa sponsorship: New visa sponsorship is not available; transfers may be considered
  • Tech stack: Python, APIs/REST APIs, Claude Code, Codex

About the team

You’ll join a high-velocity team working at the frontier of AI technology. The team moves fast, thinks big, and values a deeply collaborative, fun-loving atmosphere. While headquartered in Redwood City, CA, the team operates in a hybrid/remote model across the US, with some team members also based in Lincoln, NE.

Pay: $150,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year

Work Location: Remote

About Forward Deployed Engineering

Forward Deployed Engineers are embedded directly with customers to build custom solutions, integrate products into existing infrastructure, and bridge the gap between product engineering and customer success. The role combines deep technical skills with the ability to operate in client environments and translate business requirements into working software.

Originally pioneered by Palantir, the FDE model has spread across AI, enterprise SaaS, and cloud infrastructure companies. FDEs write production code, architect integrations, train customer teams, and feed product insights back to the core engineering organization. At companies like OpenAI, Salesforce, and Databricks, FDE teams are treated as elite engineering units that can ship custom solutions in days rather than quarters.

Typical FDE stack: Python, TypeScript, SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and increasingly LLM APIs and AI orchestration frameworks. Strong communication and the ability to context-switch between technical and business conversations are as important as coding ability.
