Forward Deployed Engineer (Solutions)
Role Description
About Zenlytic
The BI industry spent 30 years teaching business people SQL. It didn't work — 75% of business decisions are still made without data. We decided to fix the problem instead of iterating on it.
Zenlytic is the intelligent analytics platform behind Zoë, an analytics agent that reasons through your data, explains what she finds, and cites every source so you don't have to guess. Zoë answers complex questions that were previously too time consuming to answer, and enterprise customers across retail, manufacturing, and SaaS chose us over the biggest names in the space because of it.
About the Role
Most companies split the customer journey across a sales engineer, an implementation team, a CSM, and a renewals rep. Every handoff loses context, trust, and momentum. We don't do that.
As a Forward-Deployed Engineer, you own the full arc — from the first technical conversation with a prospect through deployment, adoption, renewal, and expansion. You will measure success through closed deals you supported, deployment health, time-to-value for new customers, user adoption rates, and net revenue retention across your accounts.
In This Role, You Will
- Partner with AEs to run technical discovery and tailored demos, translating a prospect's business questions into "here's exactly how Zoë would answer that" — live, in the room
- Build proof-of-concept configurations against real customer data problems
- Own deployment end-to-end: configure the data model, connect to the customer's warehouse, validate Zoë's SQL output against their source of truth, and get real questions answered correctly
- Train users across technical and non-technical audiences — from the data team to the C-suite
- Drive adoption by identifying the use cases that make Zoë indispensable to daily operations
- Be the single technical point of contact from first conversation through renewal and expansion
- Share field feedback that shapes the product roadmap — you'll see patterns across customers that no one else will
- Help build the playbook as we scale
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to bring customer feedback into product improvements
- Guide executives on how to get the most out of our AI agent through thoughtful prompt design and workflow coaching
You Might Thrive in This Role If You
- Have 3+ years of experience in solutions engineering, sales engineering, analytics engineering, technical customer success, or a similar customer-facing technical role
- Have hands-on experience working with AI — whether deploying AI-driven products, configuring systems that use LLMs, or working directly with customers on AI use cases. You understand that AI output is shaped by the context it's given, and you know how to improve that context to get better results.
- Can read a generated SQL query, spot a wrong join, identify a missing filter, and explain to a customer why the numbers don't match — this is the daily work
- Understand data modeling concepts — how tables relate, what joins do, why grain matters — and have hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, Databricks, or BigQuery
- Are comfortable being the thought partner for a CDO in the morning and diving deep with a data engineer in the afternoon — and neither conversation feels forced
- Have delivered technical demos, proof-of-concept configurations, or led customer deployments where you owned the outcome end-to-end
- Are comfortable embedding with customers to map their data workflows, diagnose adoption challenges, and identify what's blocking value
- Own problems end-to-end and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done — no "that's not my department"
- Have a humble attitude, a genuine curiosity about how data works, and a desire to do whatever it takes to make customers and teammates succeed
- Move fast when customers need you — respond quickly, follow through on what you commit to, and close the loop with the product team so customer feedback shapes what gets built
Why Zenlytic
You won't be one of fifty sales engineers. Your work directly affects revenue, customer outcomes, and how the product evolves. Zoë isn't a chatbot bolted onto a dashboard — she's a fundamentally different approach to how companies work with data, and you'll be on the front line proving it.

About Forward Deployed Engineering
Forward Deployed Engineers are embedded directly with customers to build custom solutions, integrate products into existing infrastructure, and bridge the gap between product engineering and customer success. The role combines deep technical skills with the ability to operate in client environments and translate business requirements into working software.
Originally pioneered by Palantir, the FDE model has spread across AI, enterprise SaaS, and cloud infrastructure companies. FDEs write production code, architect integrations, train customer teams, and feed product insights back to the core engineering organization. At companies like OpenAI, Salesforce, and Databricks, FDE teams are treated as elite engineering units that can ship custom solutions in days rather than quarters.
Typical FDE stack: Python, TypeScript, SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and increasingly LLM APIs and AI orchestration frameworks. Strong communication and the ability to context-switch between technical and business conversations are as important as coding ability.
